Deborah Kapitan received her juris doctor from Valparaiso University in 1991. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Viterbo University in LaCrosse Wisconsin in 1988. After graduating law school, she joined the Office of the Lake County Prosecutor. While with that office, she prosecuted fifty-five felony jury trials. For the past six years, Ms. Kapitan worked as the Magistrate of the Lake Superior Court, County Division. She presided over the civil docket of the court including small claims cases, civil plenary matters, and an active special judge docket including many case types. During her time as Magistrate, she presided over approximately fifty civil jury trials and heard bench trials daily. Ms. Kapitan is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. She is a member of the Lake County Bar Association and the Lake County Women Lawyer's Association.
