Deborah Kapitan received her Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University in 1991. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1988.
After graduating from law school, she joined the Office of the Lake County Prosecutor. where she prosecuted fifty-five felony jury trials. She then served six years as Magistrate of the Lake Superior Court, County Division. She presided over small claims cases and civil plenary matters and had a special judge docket with a wide variety of cases. During her time as Magistrate, she presided over approximately fifty civil jury trials and heard bench trials daily.
Ms. Kapitan is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. She is a member of the Lake County Bar Association and the Lake County Women Lawyer's Association.
