Gene A. Pinkus is a founding partner of Kopka, Pinkus, Dolin & Eads.  He specializes in representing insurance carriers in first-party fraud litigation defense as well as consumer fraud.  Since 2004, he has conducted over 500 examinations under oath in fire, homeowners and auto cases for many clients including State Farm, Bristol West, MetLife, 21st Century Insurance, Farmers, Canal Insurance Company, Cincinnati Equitable and Go America.  He is also involved in complex business fraud investigations.

Gene’s trial experience includes the defense of first-party fraud litigation, consumer fraud involving auto dealerships, product liability, premises liability, construction litigation, civil rights litigation and employment discrimination litigation.  He also currently handles complex trucking, auto and premises defense cases, professional contract disputes and resolution, real estate transactions, and general business matters; and serves as an arbitrator on behalf of carriers.  Early in his career, Gene specialized in workers compensation litigation and handled complex workers compensation cases for many carriers and self-insured companies.  Gene is admitted to practice law in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio and maintains a consistent practice trying cases in each state.  He has been admitted pro hac vice in California, Wisconsin and Nevada.

As the managing partner of the Crown Point, Indiana office, Gene is actively involved in the management of the firm as well as overseeing many of the firm's clients in all three states: Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.  He is involved with clients in litigation management issues including alternative billing arrangements.

Gene is a frequent speaker on the topics of bad faith and first-party claims at the Annual NSPII Advanced Insurance Fraud Seminar as well as other national conferences relating to insurance fraud.  His professional affiliations include the American Bar Association, Indiana Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Trucking Industry Defense Association, National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators, and the Council on Litigation Management (CLM) with which he is a member of CLM’s Insurance Bad Faith Committee. 

Gene is active in the Northern Indiana legal and business community.  He has been recognized in the Indiana Lawyer with respect to his ability to charter the firm through a touch economy with continued success.  He has also been recognized in the “Who’s Who in Northern Indiana” section of the Building Indiana magazine (July/August 2009) as an individual who contributes to the continued growth of businesses and communities in the area.  Gene has been coaching basketball, soccer and baseball in Northwest Indiana for many years.  He has also done pro-bono work for Munster soccer, baseball and football clubs, and is active in Marian Catholic High School.

Gene received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toledo School of Law and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Book Award in Business Association II.  He also received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toledo where he was a Phi Sigma Alpha scholar.
